Srinagar, Mar 19 (KNO): The Jammu and Kashmir Government has constituted a high-level committee to address the long-pending issue of regularizing casual, seasonal, and other temporary workers across the Union Territory. The move comes as a step toward providing job security to thousands of workers engaged in various government departments. According to an official order, a copy of which is in possession of the news agency Kashmir News Observer (KNO), states that the committee will be chaired by the Chief Secretary and will include senior officials from the Finance, Planning, Law, and General Administration Departments. “The panel is mandated to examine the humanitarian, legal, and financial aspects of worker regularization and propose a comprehensive framework for implementation,” the order states. “The committee will consist of Chief Secretary, Chairman, Additional Chief Secretary, Member, Administrative Secretary, Finance Department Member, Administrative Secretary, General Administration Department Member, Administrative Secretary, Planning, Development & Monitoring Department Member, Administrative Secretary, Department of Law, Justice & Parliamentary Affairs Member,” it states. “The General Administration Department (GAD) will provide secretarial support, and the committee is expected to submit its report within six months. It also has the flexibility to co-opt additional members if needed. The issue of casual and seasonal workers' regularization has been a long-standing demand in J&K, with thousands of workers engaged in public works, agriculture, education, and municipal services awaiting a structured employment policy,” the order reads.
